First things first!

Happy April!

Yep, time sure has flown by since I last appeared here! I'm back from my trip to Italy (pictures soon, I promise!), and digging into the business. Since I've moved, I'm reassessing everything, fine tuning my business plan, updating things, and getting the ball rolling here. Whew! It's tiring! But I'm loving it. I'm so excited about what is in store here at my new home! I have high hopes for my photography. I'm so glad I'm finally somewhere I can put roots down, and thus focus on building the business. I can't wait to share all my new ideas and adventures!

But FIRST... You know the concept of "the cobbler's children have no shoes," right? Well, in my case, it's "the photographer and her husband have no wedding album." Eek! We've been married for three and a half wonderful years now, and I'm finally going to order our album this week! I determined that I absolutely had to get this done before I get consumed with everything else. I'll be sure to post pics of the album when it comes in so you can see how beautiful Zookbinder Zookbooks are! I absolutely looooove albums, and I'm hoping to rub some of that excitement off on you, because I know that if you get one from your portrait session or wedding or such you will looooove it too!

In the meantime, check out our wedding album design below (or click the link for a bigger version since this one will be teensy!). The majority of the photography was done by Jody Ross Photography. Some reception pictures and such were also done by my friend, Jeremy Bricker, and others. And the design was done by me!* Oh, and you'll notice lots of words--they're the words from the ceremony, as well as the super sweet toasts Matt's brothers gave. It was all so important to me I just couldn't leave them out!



* Tiny disclaimer: The design is just a tad more old school than I would usually do, but I had to adapt to the photography style the pictures were taken in (as well as the size of the files). Can't wait to show you what my designs are like with my own images!

I've Moved!

I can’t believe I haven’t written anything since October! Time has just flown by… And so much has happened!

In mid-November, Matt was presented with the opportunity to transfer within his company to their new center in Michigan. A month later, we were packed up and moving! First off, I would like to say how much I really enjoyed living in Louisville. The people we met were wonderful, and the things we got to do were memorable. Thank you to all of the people who chose me to take the pictures that will help them to remember the special moments in their lives—it truly was a pleasure!

So here I am, starting a new life! I’m excited about whatever God has in store for us. We’re now living in Plymouth, Michigan. As most of you know, almost all of our family lives in Michigan as well, so it is a blessing to be able to be near them again. The last month has been packed with ups and downs, and it has been such a Godsend to have our families close.

Please be patient, as there will probably be fewer pictures in coming months since I’ll be building things up from scratch again! There will however be some great pictures from an overseas trip we have planned a couple of months from now! Can’t wait to see what the future holds. :)

Kenneth & Melanie

Kenneth and Melanie are an awesome couple Matt and I have had the pleasure of knowing for the last couple of years. They've been such an encouragement and blessing to us! I got to hang out with them this morning at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park, where we took tons of pictures amongst the autumn colors.

Kelli & Jon

When Kelli contacted me about taking pictures of her and Jon, she mentioned that he had been away in Afghanistan for a while serving our country. I was totally honored to capture the two of them so they can have great pictures to cherish during his frequent deployments. We met up this weekend at the Brown's, who are mutual friends of ours. After a fun photo shoot, we enjoyed the opportunity to get to know each other over dinner, and I found them to be a totally fun and sweet couple! Not to mention they are totally cute together! I mean, seriously, how cute is this?



I looooove Kelli's fair skin and dark hair. How gorgeous! And Jon's eyes are such a clear, piercing blue. Don't they look fantastic?



They were so full of laughter! Totally fun. These are some faves:

Danielle & Noah

Last week, I met up with Danielle and her son, Noah, at Long Run Park to get some pictures of the two of them. Noah, being two and a half, wasn't too keen on getting pictures taken, but we managed to pull out some good ones! It was fun to watch his adventuresome all-out boyness (yep, I tend to add "ness" to any word!), as he played with rocks and fed the ducks.

Still looking for the ducks! They were across the pond, but Noah kept pointing to a log in the water saying that it was the ducks. So he kept throwing them crackers. It was so cute! Isn't this precious?


After heading back home, to where Noah would be more comfortable, we finally caught some smiles! So sweet!

The Johnson Family

The past two years, Matt and I have been involved in the awesome Lifepointe church. From day one, the pastor, Jamey, made us feel super welcome and has offered lots of energy and enthusiasm to the church community. He and his wife, Crystal, as well as their kids Chloe, Max, and Josie, have been a pleasure to get to know. I enjoyed having the opportunity to capture this beautiful family on camera this weekend.

Baby Beeler is on the way!

I had the pleasure of wandering all over downtown Louisville this weekend with TJ and Erin, finding oodles of neat spots to take pictures of them in all their expectant-parent glory! They're so excited about Baby Peyton joining them soon!

I was stoked when we found this spot with the big "Dreams" sign. TJ and Erin have been waiting and hoping, and are now seeing their dreams being fulfilled.

I wish I could say I made this delicious lighting, but I didn't. The sun was actually reflecting off a huge glass building. I couldn't get over how perfect it was!

Oliver Rush

I met Shea through church, and once we started hanging out we really connected. She's been such a great friend to me. When Shea and Matt had their son, Oliver Rush, he quickly gained a spot in my heart. He's been a joy to watch as he grows! I took Ollie's seven-month pictures last week. Here's just a bit (there were so many good ones!) of Ollie for you:

I was laughing so hard when he did that I almost couldn't take the picture! He really knows how to rock! I sense a drummer in the making...

So what are the chances that you'll get a 7-month old and his mommy both looking at the camera and smiling at the same time?? One in a million, I'd say. So, Shea, here's your one-in-a-million shot. You deserve it!

One year later...

Last week, I spent a wonderful few days with my friend, Megan, and her hubby, Andy, out in Colorado. It was a fantastic time! While there, I got to shoot Megan's Rock the Dress pics! So, almost a year after their wedding, Megan totally rocked it in her dress--she went hiking through Palmer Park in Colorado Springs and looked gorgeous while doing it!
